New York Fashion Week SS18 Recap

IMG_6626

Oh hey there! Have you missed me? I knew fashion week is always a little crazy, but this New York Fashion Week kind of kicked my butt. Today is the first day I’ve had off to solely focus on SAK and my to-do list in almost a month; and it’s safe to say that I’m drowning in emails, blog posts and errands. I took a brief hiatus from the blog last week to focus on my other jobs, but I’m back, and ready to share all the juicy BTS details of New York Fashion Week with you!

In case you haven’t been following my Instagram, or don’t really know what I do – let’s do a recap. I am a freelance stylist, and I was very fortunate to be contracted with Alice + Olivia to help their styling team for a second season in a row. I absolutely love working with their team and have been working with A+O for almost a year now. In addition to styling, I just started as a Fashion Editor Consultant for StyleCaster.com; you can read my current stories HERE! So between all of that, styling for a couple other clients, and running SAK full time, I’m one busy lady! I luckily had Lauren, my summer intern, come back to NYC for fashion week to help me out with attending shows, events and everything in-between for SAK. Lauren and my NYC-based intern, Marleigh, attended shows and events for me every day, and that’s who was posting on my Insta story (I swear I wasn’t in two places at once haha).

To kick off fashion week, my blogger bestie, Madisen of Madisen on Madison and myself hosted a little pre-NYFW pamper party at Fabio Doti Salon in FiDi for a handful of our friends. We had complimentary blow-outs, spray tans by Tan in Ten and endless champagne. Once New York Fashion Week officially begun, things kicked into high gear. I was at A+O every day, attending events at night (some included Lulu’s, Free People and Vogue) and then writing articles before bed. It was a busy month, but I’m ready to catch up on life this week and get back into the swing of things. Take a look at my NYFW below and stay tuned this week for more posts! xo

Fall Hair Color Guide

_50A0337 copy.jpg

Hi guys! I have been questions about my hair recently – my recent hair posts (HERE, HERE and HERE) were pretty successful, so I wanted to share my favorite new fall hair color trends for fall. I see a lot of articles about haircuts, but not that many that talk about switching up your color for new seasons. There are some common trends to follow – go dark for winter and lighter for summer, but doesn’t that feel a little dated?

I love switching up my hair at least once a year, and instead of going dark for fall this year, I wanted to more blonde! For today’s post I’m sharing 5 of my favorite color trends that you’re about to see everywhere! For more hair inspiration, follow my hair Pinterest board HERE,

1. Golden Bronde

This Golden Bronde look is basically everything I aspire my hair to be – it’s a warm blonde-ish brown so it’s not light or too dark for the fall and winter season. The various shades of color will add dimension to your hair and it’s really easy to maintain by adding some pops of highlights every couple of months.

2. Warm Copper

I seriously miss my redhead days. I first started out with a deep red color and eventually went copper. This color perfectly matches the falling leaves, PSL’s (haha) and a fun dramatic change. If you’re naturally a blonde, light brunette or something in-between, this can be a great new color for you!

3. “Grown Out” Roots

Let your lazy girl be free and grow out those roots and don’t bother touching them up! It’s officially trendy for darker, more natural roots to show.  This trend is perfect for me because I rarely have time to upkeep with my color appointments, plus it’s so much healthier for your hair.

Ditch your caramel highlights this fall and add more dimension to your hair with a little touch of cinnamon chocolate. Doesn’t it sound delicious?! The only difference with this color trend is by just adding auburn tones to your brunette hair. It adds a subtle dimension and color to your hair.

5. Sandy Beige

Yes, that’s right, you can keep your blonde highlights this fall! However, make sure to add some low lights, or opt for an ashier blonde in the mix. It’s a great transition color from your light summer blonde to a darker color for the season.

10. Colorful

This fall there are a lot of lavenders, blues, and dark greens on many heads. If you’re looking for a huge change, dye your hair a funky color! I know I’ve always wanted to do this trend but haven’t actually gone through. However, if you have the guts go for it! I know I love seeing colorful hair as I walk down the street.

10 Ways to Get Back in the Swing of Things for Fall

simplyaudreekate-samkelly__dsc9233-1

Happy Monday! It is finally starting to feel like fall and I could not be more excited! It is officially time for pumpkins, turtlenecks, and dark lipstick. #Blessed. But to be completely honest with you all, I feel like I’ve just been treading water the past few weeks and I’m busy. busy. busy. And you know when you’re so busy or so exhausted that you can’t really get ahead or prepare for what’s next? That’s currently how I feel – yikes!

So to prepare for what’s coming up for the rest of the year with work, blog and life, I’m sharing 10 tips I use to help you get back into the groove of things. They’re super simple and you can actually start doing them today – look at fall as a fresh start and the time to get organized and kick some butt.

I hope you enjoy today’s post, and is there anything you do to get back in the swing of things? If so, leave your tips in the comments and I can check them out! Enjoy! xo

1. Clear Your Space

It is psychologically proven that when your space is clean, you feel better and have more clarity. Clean your room, desktop, makeup drawer, literally anything and everything. When I say clear your space you can do this simply by making your bed or even taking out your garbage. I know personally accomplishing little micro tasks (like making my bed) everyday always makes me feel more motivated and inspired.

2. Make a List of Goals for the Rest of 2017

Okay people, we only have a few months of 2017 left and we have much to accomplish. Start off this season with a list of goals – a physical and visible list will help you accomplish tasks and stay on track. One of my personal goals is to workout three times a week. I mean, life gets busy but it’s something I know I need to do to feel better at the end of the day.

3. Make a Short Term Goal List

What do I mean by short term goal list? Write down a list of goals for yourself to accomplish within a weeks time. Short term goals are as simple as cleaning out the fridge this week to setting aside twenty minutes to call your family. I create my weekly goal list every Sunday night, and crossing all those tasks/goals off my list make me feel like a total boss.

4. Clean Out Your Closet

Cleaning out your closet doesn’t have to be a huge ordeal. This can be as little as donating that dress you never wear, to cleaning off “that chair” you designated as a clothes hamper. When I get dressed in the morning, or whenever I look in my closet, if I see something that just doesn’t “fit” into my wardrobe or I don’t like anymore, I add it to my donation bag. It’s a really simple on-going accomplishment I can do without feeling the need to take an entire day cleaning out my closet.

5. Find Your Inspiration

To get you through the busy season and help you feel motivated and creative, find something that inspires you – whether that be art, poetry, a motivational quote book, or even an aesthetically pleasing Instagram – find something that inspires you daily. It’s funny how something as little as a quote can turn my mood around and help me feel empowered.

6. Set a Budget

New season, new budget! Start now by saving $25 (or whatever) a week, and you can potentially save close to $400 before the holiday season. That means you can buy thoughtful presents, buy your plane ticket home, or even treat yourself to something for the holidays. I know I am always trying to stick to a budget, but with the holiday season approaching, it’s good to start planning ahead.

7. Social Media Cleanse

I know my social media has changed drastically the past few years, so take the time this week to cleanse your social media. I mean, filter your own stuff (make sure everything is on brand), unfollow people who give you bad vibes, and most importantly follow people who inspire you. Revamping your social media will give you a huge sense of accomplishment.

8. Schedule Weekly ‘Me’ Time

I can not stress enough how important “me” time is. I know personally I would not make it through my weeks without some personal time. Go to the gym, get a mani/pedi, take a bath – whatever you like, do it! You will kill it this season if you set aside some personal time each week.

9. Set a Bed Time

This sounds so juvenal, but set a bed time. If you set a bed time you will get into a routine and feel more in control of your life. I know that this is a personal struggle that I am really trying to work on! I personally never get enough sleep with my schedule, but on days that I can, I always aim to go to bed on time and clock in a few extra Z’s.

10. Book a Trip

Let’s face it, after Thanksgiving the fall blues start setting in. It’s officially getting really cold and the realization that winter is coming, hits. However, to shake through these blues, book a trip! Booking a trip will give you something to look forward to during the holidays or spring. Whether it be a staycation or an extreme getaway, make sure to plan something!

Fall/Winter 2017 Trend Report: Beauty + Hair

SIMPLYAUDREEKATE.TREND.HAIRBEAUTY.png

It’s the first “official” day of New York Fashion Week, and it’s my last day of SAK fashion week trend reports! I’m sharing some of my favorite beauty and hair trends this season. It’s all about adding pops of color and the “not-so-perfect” look from smudged eyeshadow and that “just made out” lip stain. Which is your favorite trend? Let me know in the comments below! xo

SimplyAudreeKate.TrendReport.Lashes.pngThis year on the runway, Twiggy inspired lashes were all the rage. To get this look I suggest false individual lashes, bottom specific mascara or drawing on fake lashes under your eye. The dramatic bottom lashes almost act as a reverse smoky eye and and can make your eyes appear larger. Screen Shot 2017-09-06 at 10.07.02 PM.png

SimplyAudreeKate.TrendReport.Lips.png

5 year old me would have loved this trend because who else has trouble getting their lipstick to stay “within the lines”. This trend is no fuss, if it rubs off or goes all around, no worries! I definitely think that this is one of the most unique trends this season!

Channel your early 2000’s ladies, because it’s time to bring back frosty eyes! Pearl, silver, and blue will be seen on every eye this season!

SimplyAudreeKate.TrendReport.waves.pngCan’t say goodbye to your summer beach waves? Say hello to the fall waves. These cool girl loose waves are easy to maintain and will be the effortless look this season. I recommend using a texture spray and a large barrel curling iron or (my new favorite) Beachwaver!

SimplyAudreeKate.TrendReport.grunge.png

As you can tell, 90’s inspiration is taking all forms this season, but I’m mostly excited for the 90’s makeup trend that is coming back. I typically opt for a dark lip during fall and winter, but I’m really, like REALLY into this dark mauve eye from the La Perla show.

SimplyAudreeKate.TrendReport.smudge.pngBold eyeshadow is not new to the runway; we saw it last season and it is here this season, but what I’m loving about this smudged eyelid look (just like the “just made out” lips) is that they don’t have to be perfect.  You can easily swipe it on with your finger – practically as you’re running out of the door. This is every lazy girls dream!

Bangs are nothing new, but now they’re taking over the runway! Choppy, straight across, 70s inspired – whatever you want, bangs are in! Sometimes it is hard to take the leap and cut bangs but from experience, it can be a fun and instant change and update to your face!
