Guys. I wrote a book! Well technically an eBook, and I am beyond thrilled announce the launch of “Fashion Fundamentals: Internships, Networking and Social Media”
Now let’s start at the beginning. In 2017 I launched a college workshop series called “Building your Personal Brand and Resume.” I created the workshop because I had been asked to speak at several colleges and student organizations about my career path. I wanted my workshop to dive deeper than my general career story, so I focused on personal branding and how to make your resume and social media stand out in a saturated market.
I remember when I attended a fashion workshop or conference in college, the industry speaker always glazed over the initial steps they took in their career and focused on their “Cinderella career moment”—they talked about how they randomly met the right person, landed the big job or how in a blink of an eye they went from intern to CEO. This seemed unrealistic to me as a student, and now being on the other side of things, I realized that these students could really benefit from learning the fundamental steps that I, and so many other professionals, took to get where they are today. How did these professionals foster those connections after meeting the right person, how did they land the internships or nail the interview? These are important fundamentals steps that need to be taught to students, and I want to help with that process.
The workshop took off, and this past school school year I spoke at UC Davis, Kent State University, Arizona State University, Northern Arizona State University, LIM College and will be finishing the school year at Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City. After meeting countless young, talented college students, I felt inspired to take the workshop to the next step and create an eBook. This book would not only service the students I met at these workshops, but also my readers and other students who weren’t able to attend a workshop.
I have known for a long time that I wanted to write a book, and I felt like the first step in the process was creating this eBook. I put my heart into this interactive workbook. I included every tool I wish I had when I was starting out, and that I picked up on over the last 6 years. When I started my career close to six years ago with zero experience or connections, I never imagined I would be sitting here today sharing my story and helping someone else chase their dreams. I am grateful for the publications, brands, and mentors who took a chance on me, gave me the environment to learn, and pushed me to work harder than I ever imagined. Thank you to my family, friends, and team who believed in me, challenged me and supported me through this process.
