The Office Sneaker

I am a proud supporter, and firm believer in the office sneaker. Hear me out—when I first moved to New York City for my internship, I would silently judge the women in their commuter sneakers (much like the ones I’m wearing today, and a few years premature of the popular dad sneaker trend). I was baffled at the fact that women would wear clunky sneaker with their suits or pencil skirts while traveling to and from work. On the other hand, I was shocked and jealous of the women who could gracefully take on the subway and NYC streets in four-inch heels without twisting their ankle. Trust me, it’s no easy feat. And then there was myself, and the rest of New York, somewhere in-between. I opted for semi-comfortable shoes for the entire day, or would wear flats or a cuter commuter option to work and toss on heels at my desk.

Neither of these situations solved the bigger issues at hand, either you’re carrying around two pairs of shoes throughout the day (since most New Yorkers don’t have a car) or your feet are in extreme pain by the end of the work day. Since I don’t have the luxury of storing heels at an office desk, I needed the 3rd option— a comfortable work shoe that could carry me for a 12+ day and still go from meetings, events to even happy hour. I tossed aside my previous shoe beliefs and picked up a pair of sneakers. I instantly fell in love and grew my sneaker collection from two to 20+ within the past year. I am currently loving the “dad sneaker trend / chunky sneakers” when paired with a feminine dress or something oversized (like this blazer)—it becomes more dramatic, interesting and overall a cooler outfit than your gym & commuter sneaker.
