Spring is quickly approaching, fashion month is in full swing and I’m back again this week with some trend reports! At the end of last season in September, I showcased my favorite pieces from the prior fashion season, Fall and Winter – read here! Just in case you need a little fashion week refresher, fashion week features clothes of the next future line. In September, it showcases Spring and Summer clothes, and in February, it showcases Fall and Winter. But since fashion week is so far in advance to the actual season, I’m now going to show you my favorites from Spring & Summer 17 collections so you can be ready for spring in the next couple of weeks! You can bet that you’ll see some of my favorite trends walking down the street this season – from semi-sheer dressing, strong shoulders, to all-over moto crossing stripes. I’m also sharing similar runway, budget friendly items you can buy directly in the shopping links below! Stay tuned for accessory and beauty trend reports coming later this week! xo
Semi-sheer dressing will be one of my favorite trends this spring and summer. They’re romantic, whimsical, and the perfect punch of edge. You can dress them down with masucline shoes and bold jewelry for that juxtaposed romantic-edgy vibe, or play it up with dainty sandals, minimal jewelry and soft make-up. You can style this trend to fit any personal style. Shop some of my favorite semi-sheer dresses below!
Step out of your comfort zone this spring and summer, and add some frills to your wardrobe! Whether you add a few to your shirt sleeves, or all throughout the skirt of your dress – this will be a huge closet must-have trend this season. They can easily add more dimension and interest to your outfit, and will make a fast-fashion cotton shirt feel “runway ready” – Shop my favs below!
I always think of the infamous The Devil Wears Prada line, “Florals for Spring? Groundbreaking.” However, this year the fashion industry is shaking things up! There are retro floral prints, embellished and embroided flowers making an appearance (Rodarte), you’ll also see a strong emphasis on large floral prints (Dolce & Gabbana), or micro florals like this Gucci coat above. Maybe this will be the year that florals will be “groundbreaking” and add some diversity to your floral-filled spring wardrobe.
Guys…My vintage blazers with shoulder pads are FINALLY cool again! Strong shoulders are back ya’ll, and they’re back for good! (Well, maybe a season or two). We saw nods to the 1980’s and Renaissance era with strong shoulders this year – some minimal (Celine) to street-wear approachable (Marques’ Almedia) to overly dramatic and trend setting (Rodarte). The key to a successful strong shoulder, is to let that be your statement area. The wider shoulders are made to make your waist look smaller, your legs longer, etc. – so let your shoulders do the talking! You can pair your piece with a statement necklace, and rock a top knot to show off those shoulder pads.
Stripes are coming in with a bang this season! I have always loved stripes, and they never seem to go out of style, but this year on the runway we saw all-over prints, mismatched colors and variety in stripe width. Who said that you can’t wear stripes all over? Leave the mindset in 2016, because 2017 is pro-stripe and they’re back and better than ever!
