Thrift Style Thursday: Pinspired New Year

Happy Thursday! I recently  joined a blogging community called “Thrift Style Thursday” and I’m super excited to launch my first look today! Thrifting is like my therapy – I love finding ‘new’ things to add to my closet or taking looks from blogs I read, or even Pinterest, and being able to re-create them with just a few dollars. Today’s theme is “Pinspired New Year” so I’m showing off some recent trends I tried off Pinterest, as well as sharing some of my 2015 wardrobe resolutions.

Pinspiration #1: Dutch Braid Faux Hawk
I saw this braid on my hairstylist girl crush, Jenny Strebe, from The Confessions of a Hairstylist’s blog and know I wanted to try it now that my hair has grown out. My mom who has a salon in northern Arizona did the braid on me and it was super easy! It’s like an inverse french braid and then we pulled out my hair to make it more voluminous and that was it! Super easy and total bad ass.

Pinspiration #2: Dressing Up Camo
I found my camo jacket in a thrift shop in NYC that had a full rack of old surplus army store gear for $8, and I could probably wear it every day. I  typically wear my jacket with black jeans, booties and a tee but wanted to try and wear it more ways this year, like dressing it up with a dress or wearing it on a night out.

Pinspiration #3: Little Black Shift Dress
Who doesn’t love a LBD?! But I really like the idea of a shift dress that is loose because it can be super casual for a day look by itself, made flirty with a belt, or a night look with jewelry or jacket. I belted mine with a decorative belt from H&M but I am so in love with dress because its reversible with the other side being a wonderful slate grey. I found this dress on the sales rack at Express and knew it was a great investment because I really like their stuff, it holds well, and I can wear it for so many occasions.

Pinspiration #4: Socks + Heels
I never thought in a million years that I would do this. When the style first reappeared in magazines and runways I thought it was fairly childish and too high-fashion for my wardrobe but soon realized that it is literally the perfect way to wear your summer heels in the winter! Since I bought these lace-ups when it was already cold out, it’s hard to wear them but I decided to throw on a pair of mid-calf socks from the dollar store (it was totally worth the dollar to try this fashion risk) and I instantly fell in love! Now I haven’t ventured into wearing them with a regular pump like in the picture to the right, but I just need the right event and I’ll definitely share pics!

  2. Oooh I love this look, and that braid is SO cool! The one thing I miss about long hair is being able to play with it and put it up (not enough to grow it out, but still haha). I also love the socks and heels, it’s a fun, unexpected twist!! 🙂
