12 Days of SAKmas: Holiday Traditions

Happy  Tuesday! SAK-mas is well under way and I wanted today’s post to be about holiday traditions. My family typically spends Christmas with just our immediate family and significant others so it’s pretty calm overall, but we do have a few standing traditions that we do every year. Growing up, each Christmas Eve we would get new holiday pajamas, slippers and watch ” How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” Now our favorite family tradition is our Christmas dinner. We don’t do a typical turkey or ham dinner, we make lobster, acorn squash, mashed potatoes and pie. It’s seriously delicious! We started this tradition almost 10 years ago when we wanted to switch up our Christmas dinner—my sister had this recipe from a cookbook and we have never looked back since.

Also, the day after Christmas we make tamales. We have been making homemade tamales, menudo or posole every year during the holidays for as long as I can remember, and it’s a really special and fun day for my family. Besides those food traditions, my family keeps the holidays pretty simple, quiet and relaxing—which I think we all really want and need after crazy work schedules. What are your family traditions? I’d love to hear them in the comments below! xo
